March 01-04, 1999

Fig. 1. Clear large-scale chains on the modified SOHO/EIT (175 A) images of March 02 and 03, 1999 together with the corresponding Yohkoh/SXT images.

On the 2d (00:36 UT) EIT image (a), a pronounced trans-equatorial, inverted V-shaped chain 1-2-3-4 appears to outline the boundaries of a large coronal hole (CH) visible on the Yohkoh/SXT image (c). One can see that this EUV chain crosses the CH, in particularly near point 2. There are some other EUV chains, for example, a broken chain 5-6-7, a fragment 8-2 with a probable eastward continuation; some chains are present also near the east limb (region 9).

On the 3d (17:39 UT) EIT image (b), other chains and threads predominate. For example, thin threads 1-2 and 1-3 are present, a chain 3-4 coincides with the west boundary of the CH, diagonal chains 5-6 or 1-5 join the NE/E and W limbs, a thin fragment 5-7 and diffuse chain 3-7 are also indicated on the image. Some of the chains and threads appear to cross each other and also the CH visible on the Yohkoh/SXT image (d).

See a movie presented below.
